When you edit, do you have to outline the bird to get it to sharpen just the bird, and then blur the background? Or is it just a few sliders?

Ok, so with a DSLR, if the background is at least a little far away, it will already be blurred, so I’m not sure what you mean by “ then blur the background”. I do outline the bird and apply sharpening only to the bird, so it doesn’t increase any noise in the background. Then, I do some other sliders that affect contrast, saturation, color temp, and exposure.

That's definitely an upgrade and takes it from a decent shot to one of my best. I'll be adding that back to my personal album and trying to replicate the results.

They are abundant in certain parts of the country. I took them for granted in Colorado but miss them now that I live in Florida.

They are rare here, only really common in the panhandle. The ones I posted where my county's 4' flock.
