cccougar
Spotted this bird just minutes ago while sitting in my Charleston, S.C. area backyard. I don’t recognize this one but it’s a hawk right? A Cooper’s perhaps? Thank you forum friends.
henry
seems to have a pretty round head so I would say sharp-shinned hawk rather than cooper's, but tough to say without any scale for size
cccougar
Thanks Henry. It was smallish I would say.
Benjamin
This is a Cooper's. The first photo is a bit misleading (illustrating exactly why ID from one photo can be a tricky business), however in the latter ones you can see the 'capped' appearance created by the pale nape. cccougar
American Kestrel sized. It resembled a Falcon to me.
Avery
Just now, Benjamin said: This is a Cooper's. The bird has a paler nape than the crown.

Yes 1st pic is a bit "sharpish" but it's a Cooper's
The Bird Nuts
I think Cooper's as well. But seeing the original photos would help. These back-of-camera photos fail to show actual colors and are a bit skewed.
