While I enjoy seeing the birds at our feeders, it makes me happy to see them foraging/sheltering/etc. in our yard.  We have eschewed formal landscaping in the back in favor of native flora & more natural surroundings.  The Carolina Wrens love the compost heap, the Brown Thrashers love the unraked leaves, the Grey Catbirds love the poke berries, the Mourning Doves love the dirt path & bird bath.  ?

This is great. You are likely to enjoy a much larger diversity of birds, insects, and other wildlife with a yard landscaped with a focus on native plants, and one that isn't highly manicured. Kudos. I'd love to see it.
