IKLland
And the white was on the wing? Any help is appreciated
MCTX
I can't tell much by the picture, but the common bird in Texas with white on the wing like that is a white-winged dove. So that is my guess.

Aidan B
I will need to check closer later, but it strikes me as either a lark bunting, or a leucistic sparrow of some sort. It almost looks like a molting leucistic California Towhee, but it seems too big. Edited December 8, 2020 by Aidan B

Thanks but the bird was dark gray in person, and lark buntings don’t live here and the males are not breeding now
Jim W
Was this a marshy area? Almost looks like an immature Common Gallinule.

Jim W
Actually, I'm not convinced the white is part of the bird. Pic cropped further and brightened. It wondering if the white is a branch. Same arced shape as other branches.
Melierax
Kind of impossible to ID from the photo, but strikes me as a Pacific Wren. Habitat fits too.
Birding Boy
Probably doesn’t help much but I’m getting Starling vibes from this...although obviously habitat and everything is off. Aidan B
I'm almost thinking it is a Brown-headed Cowbird now.
DLecy
While this pic is really rough, I do agree that the white is not part of the bird. This bird feels like a California Towhee to me based on shape, the description of habitat, that fact that it's close to the ground, that beady dark eye, as well as the location of the sighting. But, this appears to be a phone phone pic and trying to ID a bird from phone photos can be comical at best.

But I think it is very difficult to gauge the size of the bird from these pictures. The reason I noticed the white bit might be a branch was I was looking closely for nearby objects that might be used to estimate the size of the bird. (I realize IKLland tried to compare it to nearby sparrows in the field, but judging size can be difficult.) Shame one of the White-crowned Sparrows was not standing next to it in the picture. I certainly wouldn't rule out California Towhee based on size.
Seanbirds
I say Cowbird or Towhee.
