Some Sparrows

Let's see how I'm doing with sparrows.

Taken 11-15-2020 at Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve, Van Nuys, CA

1) Song Sparrow ??  8695

2) Lincoln's Sparrow ??  8709

3) White-crowned Sparrow -- pretty sure.  8998

2. Gonna call this one a Song because I don’t see any buff on the breast but idk

I think 2nd bird looks like Savannah with that pink bill and lighter chest streaking.

Yes the 2nd on is a Savannah Sparrow. Note how thin the bill is compared to a Song Sparrow.

In my opinion here is what I’m gonna go with 

1. song sparrow (heermanni group)

2.sparrow sp.

3. white-crowned sparrow( subspecies uncertain

 

if I had to say song or Savannah on bird #2 I would say song, I live in Orange County, Ca and that bird looks like a heermanni to me( which is what  get here) also remember how the Savannah sparrows here have some of the more yellow line? I did not write the real name cause I can’t spell it🙃🙃

Also, the facial pattern is different between the song sparrow (not to be difficult, but the bill looks silver to me) and sparrow #2. The buffy cheek is also different.

With the black streaking size on the white breast, you can call it a heermanni subspecies not just a part of the group. The WCSP is Gambel’s

Yes. I wasn’t really clear. Bird number 1 is Melospiza Melodia Heermanni. There are multiple subspecies in the heermanni group, and this bird is the subspecies the group is named after, heermanni.

It’s Savannah. I don’t see why there is any debate here.

Agreed. Definitely a SAVS. Note the much smaller bill than the Song Sparrow, finer streaking below and thinner malar stripe.
