Sanderlings?

Recommended Posts

Photo from today at low tide near Monterey, I think these small birds that I often see chasing the waves are Sanderlings, but overheard someone calling them Snowy Plovers, can someone please confirm my ID? Also those bigger guys (not the gull) are Whimbrels?

Bills too large and no neck rings rule out Snowy Plover, which is also not a species that typically forages in flocks.

I always see em in flocks of around 20 here in Orange County, California

I was focused on this behavior.  Will Snowys do that?

Sanderlings chase waves, snowy plovers from what I see them do here, do not
