Confirm Brewer's Sparrow

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This little guy showed up in my backyard this morning in SE Aurora, Colorado. I want to say it is a young Brewer's but I have never seen one in my backyard before. Plus it seemed too small for a sparrow. It seemed more the size of a Siskin. Thanks for the help.  https://imgur.com/a/it4xn2n

This looks like a molting adult Chipping Sparrow. The molt in the wings is too extensive for a youngster, and the dark eye-line extending to the lores and the faint malar are wrong for Brewer's.

Does the post-juvenile molt include the remiges, or am I misinterpreting what appears to be molt in the primaries?

No, the preformative molt typically does not include remiges.  However, I don't see any strong suggestion of active wing molt in the bird.
