Let's see what others think. @The Bird Nuts--At the time I actually saw the bird, I thought Red Shouldered, also, but when I looked at the pic, I talked myself out of that ID because I thought the tail was too long for a Buteo. But then the long tail threw me off Buteo. So, would the wing shape & their size relative to the body trump the tail length as far as determining Buteo vs. Accipiter? Yes, I agree that the wings are too broad for an Accipiter, but I don't think the tail is too long for a Red-shouldered.
