Dan P
Taken 12-25-2020 in the afternoon on the Los Angeles River at Sepulveda Basin in Van Nuys, CA. What is the duck in the foreground?
AlexHenry
Looks like a Northern Pintail in the foreground with an American Wigeon in the background.

Dan P
Northern Pintail is another first for me. Also, I had this bird in a shot from 13 minutes earlier. I may have overlooked it thinking it was a female Mallard. Is this also a Northern Pintail?
AlexHenry
That’s neither a Pintail or a Mallard. Looks most like a female Blue-winged Teal to me, but don’t quote me on that...

I was looking at the photo, and I think it is probably is a Blue-winged Teal. But I'm not certain. Edited January 2, 2021 by Aidan B

Dan P
Thanks you guys. Blue-winged Teal is another new one for me. As far as I know. I'm not very good with female ducks. They're all Mallards to me.
