Can someone please help me identify a bird that I saw this morning at our bird feeder. That said, there were about 7 of them. They were all hanging on the feeder with the fat balls. When one left they all left and flew off together. The other small birds were not scared of them. A sparrow and blue tit joined them. I have never seen them before and I cannot find them in my British wildlife book.

The birds were about 12 cm in length, have a long tail and very strong black markings, I.e. mask, on back left and right and on tail with white. The back between the black stripes was red/brown.

I would be so happy to find out what kind of bird they were.

Thanks very much in advance.
