Gull ID extravaganza!! (Part 1)

Recommended Posts

I'm almost certain Photo Twelve is Thayer's with the underside of the primaries being lighter than the outside of them

Photo thirteen is interesting. I have no idea what to call it, but it is some sort of Blacked back gull sp. probably Western but it matches the pictures of Slaty-backed pretty well, but as I said before I have no knowledge on what it is. I'll tag a few people who might be able to tell you better @AlexHenry @Connor Cochrane @DLecy @Tony Leukering

That bill is large and all WEGU. There can be lots of variation in the uppers of Western Gulls, or all gulss for that matter. The ssp, L. o. wymani, tends to have a darker mantle.

Slaty-backed Gulls can cause confusion with WEGUs but would typically have a thinner bill, brighter pink/reddish legs, and would lack a small dark beady-eyed look, among other things (wing pattern is diagnostic for example).

Thanks for clearing that up!
