Clip
Hi, I'm wondering what ducks are these? I think Greater Scaup but ebird has it flagged. Photo taken in Alachua County, FL a week or so ago. Thanks in advance.

Charlie Spencer
I agree they're scaup. Can we see enough of the head shape to make a call between Lesser and Greater?
Clip
An ebird admin. did contact me and they are not saying it isn't a Greater more that it is just unknown.
Jefferson Shank
I agree they're scaup. Can we see enough of the head shape to make a call between Lesser and Greater? I thought the heads look round enough to be Greater and the bill looks pretty big too. I may be wrong. @Clip Do you have any pictures that show the side of the head? Jefferson Shank
An ebird admin. did contact me and they are not saying it isn't a Greater more that it is just unknown. The best approach to take is probably scaup sp. unless you have more pictures.
Hasan
From this angle these are better left Scaup sp.

Avery
What about the nail on the bill? Is that not a reliable feature on anything but a breeding male? It large, which points to greater. I think these look like greater scaup, with the wide bill and head. Also, they’ve been foraging, so head shape is unreliable, although it looks good for greater as well.
