Help with an Empid

Recommended Posts

It does look good for Least.

However, what is "warbler size?"  From a quick perusal of the gross length values provided in the old Sibley guide, warblers range from 4.5 inches to 6 inches in length, while Empidonax range from 5.25 inches to 6 inches in length.  The latter group then occupies the upper half of the range of size variation in the former group.  So, the largest warbler species (the two waterthrushes and Ovenbird) are 1/3 larger than the shortest species (the two parula species) and 27 warbler species fall within the range of Empidonax length.  Least Fly falls smack in the middle of the range of warbler length.

Many of us think of warblers as being all of roughly the same size.  However, consider that the average Bald Eagle length is roughly 1/3 longer than the average Ferruginous Hawk length.
