sbruenjes 50
I got these pics today in Central New jersey, along the Raritan River. I saw a peregrine falcon later.. are these pics also of the peregrine falcon? Or is this something else. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The last pic was the falcon, along the water... I'm not sure what its doing... is it eating a rock? Maybe that's shellfish?
The Bird Nuts 5,157
The first bird is a Merlin. Note the large head in proportion to the body, the thin "sideburn", and the thin white tail bands.
Birding Boy 2,268
Agreed. We seem to be having a large Merlin trend here 😁 1

Jefferson Shank 2,675
Merlin Peregrine Flacon (nice shot!) Are you typing with your tongue now? 😆 LOL! No, I guess not this time. I looked Flacon up out of curiosity and it is a "a small stoppered bottle, especially one for perfume."

pictaker 2,937
Peregrines eat rocks to get rid of Fatty buildup in their crops, Much like some birds eat dirt and sand so they can digest grains.. The peregrine will eventually hock up the rock coated with fat... and now you know the rest of the story... 3
