Mark F
Hi all, Could I get your opinion on whether these are Yellow-rumped Warbler? One is fighting off a Lesser Goldfinch. Thanks, Mark
Birding Boy
These are actually Pine Siskins, note the conical bill, extensive streaking, and yellow in the wing and tail feathers. 2

Mark F
Oh wow, that's a lifer! Or, at least, it's the first time that I know it's a Pine Siskin. 😃 Many thanks! Mark

Is that because they are more abundant this year? (I should have said that the photos were taken today in the SF Bay area.)

Bud worms are sad for the spruce, but great for birds.
Connor Cochrane
While there are certainly higher numbers this year in rural California, I don't feel like there are many more than normal this winter in residential parts of the Bay Area. Tony Leukering
Yellow-rumped Warblers have (except in fresh juvenile plumage) a yellow rump patch. The yellow on these birds is on the wings and tail. Additionally, Yellow-rumped don't frequently eat seeds.
