We were there once when a huge number of geese suddenly decide to take off at the same time and the roar of their wings for that moment defies my ability to describe. In Colorado Greater White-fronted Geese I would see maybe two at a time, at Quivira 100s maybe 1000s. Sandhill Cranes I had seen more in Monte Vista, Colorado migration during the Crane festival but there were still a bunch at Quivira. The first time we went we hoped to see Whooping Cranes. We left having not seen them but then they were reported the next morning.🙄 I have now seen one here in Florida but it was very distant would love to see more some time. Ducks at Quivira numbers also amazing. Shorebirds numbers also crazy. Highly recommend this place to all birders especially if you are going to be in the area. I HAVE to go there!

Avery
One of the few “flying V’s” on the lake today! It was interesting to see the groups move around sweeping up stragglers. Plus a few rarities! https://ebird.org/checklist/S99517085
Jodi Nielson
Stopped at a rest stop in either Indiana or Illinois and there were hundreds of grackles and red-winged black birds in the trees. The sound was near deafening...

Jodi Nielson
@chipperatlexactly!! crazy sound @stitch58 that's insane! These were all in the trees, but flying in masse from one section to the next. They never formed a proper murmuration.
