Weird Bird in Idaho

Recommended Posts

Hello! First off... I'm super happy to see that the forums are back! I've missed them so much!

Okay, this is a tough one... I was in my yard yesterday (near Boise, Idaho) and I saw a bird fly over my house that I've never seen before. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get the binoculars or a camera so I have no photo... just a few notes.

About the size of a Magpie, all white tail, white wing tips, the body looked grey (I think). I know this is a long shot but I thought I throw it out there.

Let me know if you have any ideas! Thanks!

Clark's Nutcracker?

Clark's Nutcracker

I think it was probably smaller than a Nutcracker (I've seen them a lot up in Northern Idaho) and the tail was all white... I really have no idea what it was. Wish I would've been able to snap a quick pic!

Shot in the dark, but what you described in markings/color is very common in domestic pigeons, and they range in size from 6 oz up to 3 lbs. Those 3 pounders are not capable of flight, however.

Honestly, I was thinking a dove or pigeon. I see Mourning and Eurasian Collard Doves in the yard everyday so I know it wasn't that but maybe a domestic pigeon got out. I guess without a photo I'll never know... unless I see it again.
