Dan P 176
Taken 2-17-2021 at the Los Angeles River near Fletcher Dr. bridge in Atwater Village, CA. When I took this shot, I thought it was a Black-crowned Night Heron by it's size and stance. But now I'm not so sure. It's all brown, but doesn't have white spots on its back. And it's head is quite bushy -- although it was a bit windy. Could this be anything other than BCNH ?

Tony Leukering 3,370
The huge white spots on the tips of the greater coverts, among other features, rule out Yellow-crowned.
