It depends upon what you mean by "second summer." The term generally means, in actuality, third summer, or the second summer after the summer in which it was produced. That is one of the myriad reasons that using cycle terminology makes things a bit more straightforward. That Ringer is in its first plumage cycle, as evidenced by the dark tertials, among other features.

Feb-Mar birds only

first cycle (not yet one year old)

second cycle

advanced 2nd or delayed 3rd, probably the latter
