Sonoma County CA recently.

A very large gull with a sharply bicolored bill. Mostly pretty pale plumage (though much darker than Glaucous). Primaries paler than a Herring, darker than Glaucous-winged.

Gull season is almost over, don’t worry, this will probably be one of the last...

Nelson's would be my guess

Thanks. That was my thought in the field as well, I agree with you. (However given the tentative nature of hybrid gull identification I think it’ll stay as a “gull sp” on eBird)

As you all know, I am awful with gulls, but why not Cali gull? My National Geographic guide says some can be quite pale of this age.

Without even getting into field marks, take a look at the adult California Gull right behind and to the left of the bird in question in the first pic. Do you notice any differences?

Precisely. This bird is a decent candidate for a Nelson's Gull (Glaucous x Herring), and it's an absolute beast compared to that puny CAGU behind it.
