Rail? Sora?

Recommended Posts

In conducting our bird strike study at Johnson County Community College, we found this bird.  We believe it might have been struck by a car versus a window strike.  We are having trouble identifying it so any help would be appreciate.  Apologies for the quality of the photos.  We've had a suggestion it was a first year Sora.  Overland Park, Kansas 09-26-2018

First, just to be sure, Sora is a species of rail.  Virginia Rail, the only other species likely to be found there, has a much longer bill.  The two small rail species (Yellow and Black) have smaller bills.
