Rock/Purple Sandpiper

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This isn’t my observation but there are some reputable birders who are wondering why these/this bird(s) are not Purple Sandpipers. This sighting is on the heels of a single confirmed Rock Sandpiper that was present at this location for a few weeks. The single ROSA was a second county record. Either bird is quite rare at this location. I realize an open wing shot would help greatly, but wondering what others think.

Given how difficult the ID is, I might suggest posting to the advanced bird ID facebook page.

I would do that but I’m not on FB. Post it up there if you are so inclined. It’s being discussed on some local threads but I’m not sure if a conclusive ID will come of it. Thanks!
