That's not a Blue Dasher.  Quite sure it's a Chalk-fronted Corporal.

Thanks! I've since found a better site that shows 5 times the number of species in VT than the one I used to ID this one. Thanks! These guys were everywhere.

Chalk-fronted Corporal

Is there a good field guide to the large insects of VT? Or small ones that focus on moths, butterflies, and dragonflies respectively for VT/Northeast?

I don't know of a good guide for all large insects.  I have separate field guides for moths, butterflies, and odes. They are:

  • Princeton Field Guides Dragonflies and Damselflies of the East
  • Kaufman Field Guide to Butterflies of North America
  • Peterson Field Guide to Moths of Northeastern America

I've been told that the moth guide is not totally reliable, so I double check with people on iNaturalist and other websites.

iNaturalist identified the moth as a Promethea Silkmoth. I checked on it/her again, and she had been joined by what seems like a male!DSC_7982.thumb.JPG.48bc1c1fde596d0f84b6db6759f3bbfc.JPG

I think I found part of a wing of one of those the other day!
