I think you might be the only other person besides myself to post a Tiger Beetle. Love Tiger beetles!

Well, we have regular cicadas around here that pop up every year, and then there’s also one population of 17 year cicadas, which are also called periodicals, which as their name suggests emerge every 17 years.  And there’s multiple “broods”, which will hatch out on different years. This years brood, named brood x, is the largest. Here’s a more in depth article that explains it better than I can: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/brood-x-cicadas-are-emerging-at-last1/

Thank you!

Raise your hand if you have a love hate thing for butterflies in the Skipper family. I love finding them and photographing them I even like trying to id them. I hate that I can't always id them with certainty. This skipper is a case in point. I have it down as a Twin-spot Skipper but I'm not 100% certain. I have photographs of others I have tried to id but got frustrated. I have others that I haven't tried at all because I know they are not going to be easy.

This was the first colorful tiger beetle I’ve seen! When I saw it I thought of you.

I’m jealous of all the amazing Tiger Beetles I’ve seen shared here. One of my favorite bug groups, but I’ve only ever seen one species here in Michigan 😕

Fine, but you have to identify them all for me when I put them on iNaturalist

Oh you mean you have more than Tiger Beetles? Like flies and mosquitoes and chiggers and ticks and fleas and those little bugs you don't see that bite you and wasps and Asian Ladybeetles that invade your house and don't leave for two years until someone comes to kill all of them and....

I guess I can start unpacking.

Here are two different individuals from June 13, both Oblique-lined, I'd bet.

I don't think they have chiggers in Michigan.

Around here, those little bugs you don't see that bite you are called "no-see-ums". 🙂

They are super tiny and not easy to spot. The ones I have seen have been around mudflats, sandy areas and actually on the trails in various environments. They also move very fast making them hard to spot.

Not sure why that makes you sad. It makes me sad when I can't id them. But, it also insures I will always have something to do.
