I can't tell whether it's a robber fly, but I'm far from an expert. (That gorgeous first picture has to be a robber, though, right?) I am also not an expert and I don't know the answer. I was hoping the poster knew.

Two main species live on our property. Have not Identified them. One is quite large, colors are green and blue. Has transparent wings. The other is medium-sized, flaming red, and has transparent wings with a reddish tint to them.

lonestranger
Like I said previously, I have lots of bug photos. Most of them are just classified as bugs because I either didn't research the ID or can't remember the ID if I did research it.

Interesting, neither Flame nor Neon Skimmer is on the Odonata Central list for Sumner County or at iNaturalist. The way I got sucked into oding was that I took a couple pictures, and two people told me there should be Flame Skimmers in my county, and why didn't I get the first county record? In fact, at ponds in my town, you can hardly turn around without hitting a Flame Skimmer with your elbow. So then it was Western Pondhawks... and Eastern Amberwings... and Blue-fronted Dancers... So why don't you take a picture and get the first record of Flame Skimmer for your county? :-) Anyway, have a couple male Flame Skimmers. 6

Could well be, and you probably have more dragonfly species than you know about. 1 hour ago, Seanbirds said: Btw, @Jerry Friedman, how do you report dragonflies? Some people are so picky about details... You can use either Odonata Central or iNaturalist. I use OC for dragonflies and damselflies because I can request expert vetting, which has been very quick so far. I've had to wait months at iNat. Also OC easily produces county checklists, so you can see what has and hasn't been reported for your county. I think OC also has better coverage for odes in the Western Hemisphere, including museum specimens mapped by county. Those are the main points as far as I'm concerned, but more can be said. Anyway, whichever one you pick, make a log-in and follow the instructions. You'll need one or more photos that establish the ID. That shouldn't be a problem with a big red dragon, and I'm sure there will be people here who can confirm the ID before you submit the record if you want. On the other hand, at either site you can submit photos without an ID and let other people identify it. You'll also need the location. In iNat you can find your location on a map, and I think you can do that in OC too, though I've only submitted a couple records since they changed their Web site and I don't remember for sure. I'll be happy to help with either site, and I imagine other people will too. Edited March 26, 2021 by Jerry Friedman extra word
