BirdManAndy
Spotted in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn on Sunday. He was interested in a large ground hog. Can a Red Tail Hawk eat something that large?
Avery
I've seen one on a large possum, and I bet it'll take anything it can get if it's hungry enough.
Jefferson Shank
I've seen one attempting to haul off a chicken on one of our trail cameras.
chipperatl
I've seen one trying to take down a Ring-necked Pheasant before. I think an adult Groundhog might be too much for it to tangle with. Birds of the world says small to medium mammals, rabbits and hares.
Charlie Spencer
I think your question is, "Can a Red-tailed Hawk take down a groundhog?" "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can ..." lonestranger
While a Red-tailed Hawk might try to take down a groundhog, the hawk would not be able to take off with it. Groundhogs are considerably heavier than Red-tailed Hawks so groundhog wouldn't be on the take away menu.
