Nice photo!  Personally, that is a comfortable 4 for me.  The lighting and crispness are just not there.  If you brought the exposure up a bit more (while still keeping the highlights in a comfortable range, of course), I think it would become a high 4 for me.

Thanks! That’s pretty much where I stand now.

That's the worst haha.  I'd be pretty happy with this one though!

Ah well, nice to bird with someone else though even if they aren’t big into photos. I did get some good warbler photos that I’ll add to the list in a while.

Nice! I really like the second edit! I probably need to find a better editing program, yours seems to do a much better job than mine. Here's the original photo before I had edited it any. Quite a tricky angle to edit! I should try cropping in more, like you did with the second edit.  I don't ever really do that.

Thanks, my editor is the photoshop express. It’s free, but if you want to edit raw photos, which I highly suggest, then you need to pay $35 for that. But honestly, that’s what I did and I’m happy with it. I use it on my iPad, so if you use it on a computer, you might not get the same features, but for me, it does and excellent job. For someone who wasn’t quite ready to dive into Lightroom for all that money on a computer, I’m happy with this. Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever need Lightroom, because this does such a good job for what it is.

Whoah! A lot of room for your choice of cropping there! If you don't mind, I might suggest cropping leaving a bit more room to the right, or a 2:3 crop ratio (You're original looks like it's 1:1) I just took a quick screenshot to show what I mean.781031558_ScreenShot2021-09-04at2_38_39PM.thumb.png.3a1796e7fdfa23f8072d4c264f26b148.png

This is how I like cropping my photos. Nice!

Eagerly awaiting a solution to rate bombing...

The simplest solution to the rate bombing is to just stop worrying about the ratings. While we all want everyone to go WOW over all of our photos and call them 5 star photos, worrying about ratings from someone that doesn't like our photos does nothing except to take away from our enjoyment of taking the photo and sharing it with people that do like the photo. Just my personal opinion, but I think ratings are way overrated.

Thanks, yeah, I agree, it’s just tough when one has put a lot of time, effort, and often money into their gear, to watch every photo downrated immediately. It’s also the factor that someone would go out of their way to downrate everything is weird and annoying, not as much as wether they like it or not. I mean, I guess it’s worse for me because I’m pretty sure I know who’s doing it, and he got way obscessed with rating and rate bombing to the point where in his mind only his own photos are 5s...yeah anyways, I’ll try to figure out how to attach imbed from flickr LOL. Sorry for the rant, I’ll try to keep such stuff off this site from now on.

Bruh. Would you call this shot a 4 or a 5? Probably just another case of certain local ebirders disliking me in particular, but just making sure LOL. Eagerly awaiting a solution to rate bombing...

I would also give this a 5.

Someone just rated this a one so 4 or 5?

I agree with @IKLland for 4 on this one; the resolution and lighting are both strikes.  (Note @IKLland that the eBird guidelines don't mention anything other than the bird mattering for the rating.)

??Why would they??

Kind of a long story, but in short someone has quite a few alt accounts, and was rating his photos 5s regardless of quality...and I tried to provide some tips on how to improve certain elements of said photos so they’d actually be 5 stars. Which was apparently taken the wrong way, unfortunately, I don’t even know if I’m in the “right” to be honest. So yeah, just kinda a really weird situation.

That contributor seems to have quite a bit of underrated photos.

Also this is the most adorable thing I've seen in my life:

Default mode is assume that someone is doing “it” (birding and/or photography) for their Ego, unless you know otherwise  Share info on birds, but only advice if asked for.  Lots of really helpful people in the state, but there are those that are not.
