Birding Boy
They were pretty close, and if you clicked on the “view more” option it showed a bunch of them. Ah well, I’ll just try and upload it in a few days and see what happens.

Birding Boy
Anybody else notice that over the last week, a couple times all of the photos on eBirds best of the day have been rate bombed with some very low ratings? They will be really high up and then everything will gain one or two ratings and some with fewer ratings will change to four stars and the others, while they will still retain the 5 star average, will drop considerably on the species page when compared to other shots. Just crazy someone goes through the effort off doing all that..

I think ebird needs a filter so that once a photo gets thirty-forty 5 star ratings, and than someone rates the photo as a one star, ebird will ignore the outlier.

YES. I was thinking that too, if I can find an email address I might suggest that, I think it would really improve the system.
PaulK
I think there's a fundamental difference of opinion between people who rate things as they see them vs rate them in an attempt to bring the rating the number they think is the correct rating, if you see what I mean.
BirdNrd
Of course I'm not complaining that 44 people rated this photo, but is this not a 5? Any thoughts are appreciated. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/333039231

IKLland
I still regret doing my own photos here, but I got hit with some really annoying one stars yesterday..... https://ebird.org/checklist/S88783133
Birding Boy
Ok, I will try to send an email today at some point to the Macaulay Library contact email. This really isn't good if all the photos are being bombed at least twice a day...
Kevin
Someone just kicked me two of my audios and one photo of the illustrated checklist for Palo Pinto County! The audios aren't too bad they really are a bit better than mine, but his Grasshopper Sparrow pics is not as good as mine! It really is annoying to me when people rate somebody's photos better than they really deserve just because they are somebody. His photos where at FIVE stars and they just were not that good, I saw them as two's and three's. Okay I'll shut up now, pay me no mind I just complaining... 4

Yeah, I have someone in my county who rates photos quite oddly. He rates them 5s if they’re his, likes them, or if their someone else’s whom he likes, regardless of quality. If I get a better photo that might replace his or someone else’s on the illustrated checklist...I might get a down rate.

Laura
I guess I really am not concerned about the rating system for photos. Some people just give poor ratings for everything, some give high ratings for everything, and then there are the people in the middle. We all love our own photos, but photography is a learned skill, and it's one I haven't mastered. When I critique my own photos I look for correct exposure-are blacks to black, or whites to white ?- in either case there's a loss of detail- Then I look to see if the image is sharp, and crisp and in focus. Correct Exposure settings will affect all other settings to some degree. I can edit those to fix some of those, but editing won't fix all of them. So, I call those photos 'for the record'. I have a lot of photos that are lacking in some, all of those, but it may have been, for an example, a bird, or butterfly I've never seen before, so I want a record of it. It took me a long time to be honest with myself about the quality of my photos, to look at them with a detached, critical eye. There are some that I'm really proud of that are lacking in one or more of the things that make a good or even a great photo, but I don't care because ultimately I took time out of my day, hauled a bunch of gear, tramped through the woods, or whatever, to find birds, animals and anything I come across, to do something I love- to take pictures. I think I have 2 photos in the Macaulay Library, one is a really poor quality photo but it was a Summer Tanager and we don't get them in Minnesota, or at least not often, the other was the Carolina wren, and that was on ok photo but it took a lot of editing. Other than people rating the photos there, are those ratings important for the Library itself? Does it serve some sort of function for them?
