Henggang Cui 5
The tail seems to be squared and has little white band at the tip.
AlexHenry 1,814
I’d say Cooper’s but it’s a tough call
Hasan 467
Definitely Cooper's.
The Bird Nuts 5,157
Another for Cooper's.
Henggang Cui 5
Can someone please explain to me how to tell it’s a Cooper’s Hawk? @AlexHenry @Hasan @The Bird Nuts

Sharp-shinned's usually have their shoulders hunched forward. Cooper's head's will project further out, which is accentuated by this. The somewhat curved tail edge also helps, as Sharp-shinned have a more square-tipped tail. The white tip, if broad, is a good indication of Cooper's. Also, with good view of the face, we can see the bill isn't smushed into the face, and the eyes don't appear large. Hope that helps!
Tony Leukering 3,314
The tawny hood is, perhaps, the best clue with that photo, but with other good features being the well-defined streaking lacking crossbars down the middle and the relatively lightly marked sides.
