Is this call a Golden-crowned Kinglet or a Brown Creeper? Sumner County, TN - 14th March 2021

Recommended Posts

Looking through some old recordings, I've found a bird making this call.

Here is what the spectrogram looks like, in case it helps.

It was recorded in early afternoon in a wooded area next to a campground located by a lake.

My best guess so far is either a Golden-crowned Kinglet or a Brown Creeper - the spectrogram looks like it could match up with either one of those species, and at the time of recording, they were both likely to show up in that habitat.

If any more information is needed, let me know!

Definitely a kinglet . Sounds like one that is undecided on whether it’s going to sing, like this one.

Also, the spectrogram looks the same. Brown Creeper calls are more wavy, like this: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/324761661#_ga=2.146579059.615373313.1617900897-362103245.1592329863

Yeah, you're right. Guess I don't know them as well as I thought 😅

Thanks! :) Those examples definitely help make it clearer.

I was leaning Kinglet to begin with, but second guessing myself because I didn't realise they could be so undecided on singing. Good to know to listen out for that.
