Connor Cochrane
This topic is about yardbirds (but not the band that Eric Clapton was in). @Avery brought up a good point that we should have this topic.
Aidan B
Just in time! I literally got my yardbird Hooded Oriole five minutes ago! I really hope he sticks around, as there's a large palm just two houses down from me.
Connor Cochrane
So far I'm at 73 species for the yard this year, with the most recent addition being an Osprey.
Seanbirds
I think there’s a topic like this buried way back in the PS&D subforum.

neilpa
Fox Sparrow, first new yardbird in awhile. Brings me to a grand total of 31 for my small city yard. Jealous of all you folks that get so much more variety.

Colton V
What are everyone's "rules" for yard birds? My rule is if I can see or hear it from my yard, it's a yard bird.

I count any thing that I see from about 4 miles of road that I regularly bird, my yard, and some property next to us, that I have access to. Same. Although since there are so few birds I can confidently ID by ear this basically means see only.
Avery
My yard is relatively small, so I basically count the birds in the neighborhood. Coincidentally, the only species on my yard list that I haven’t seen from my yard was just a few houses down the road, a lost NOHA perched in a tree
chipperatl
My Yard rules include some backwater of a lake that I can access from the property next to mine which is partially power lines, so owned by Consumers. If I had to I could scope that from my yard, but it is easier to walk there. I also count if I can hear it, so I counted Common Loon I could hear from the lake that is ~1/2 mile away.
Kevin
If I only counted what I could see/hear from my yard, it would only be at about 160 or so.
Connor Cochrane
I only include birds from my small yard with no bodies of water within miles, and were in the hills. Consequently, my list is very small. Right now I'm at exactly 100.

Although I think 62 is actually pretty good considering I live on a busy street in a developed neighborhood with only a quarter acre yard that is 75% lawn.
IKLland
Our yard is tiny, so my list is somewhere around 40.
Aaron
My yard is also very small and thus sucks, so I only ‘bird’ it if I know I’m not going to go anywhere. I’m at 64. For the whole community I’m at 110. My cabins yard is still under an acre, but is still much larger with many trees and is beside a lake and Marina. For ~2km radius I’m at 146 species, just for birds seen/heard from the actual yard I’m at 116.

Fingers crossed this post also summons a new bird ? 1
