Yardbirds

I walked out the door at 6:30a this morning and heard a Killdeer calling from somewhere in the cul-de-sac.  Yard bird #82.  While they're regular breeders around the fields and ponds a half mile away, I didn't expect one would wander into the fringes of a suburban development.  A good start to the day!

I used to see Killdeers on the driveway. Pretty neat thing.

Handful of new yardbirds this last month

68. Black-throated Gray Warbler

69. Mallard

70. Brown-headed Cowbird

71. Western Wood-Pewee

72. Tree Swallow

73. Hammond’s Flycatcher

Can’t believe it took this long for a flyover Mallard

Just had #159 for the yard, with Canada Warbler singing.

#160 - with a freaking Cerulean Warbler singing up in the trees for about 15 minutes!!!  Never got eyes on it.  I was pretty sure on the song, but had to verify as I was shocked.  They are a rare treat to find in my county.

Got up to 54 for our small yard in town but this season we're moving so I had to take down all my feeders and houses. The new place is 15 acres of timber holdings with mixed age evergreen/alder and 3 creeks so it will be fun to see how the new list unfolds.

Spent the first day at the new place - just woods and a driveway for now. Logged 12 sp plus 1 additional taxa.  4 FOY including Wilson's and Yellow-rumped warblers. Lots of wildflowers too.
