What are everyone's "rules" for yard birds? My rule is if I can see or hear it from my yard, it's a yard bird.

I only count birds that I get photos of or that I see AND get an audio recording of in or from our yard.  If I only hear a bird in the distance...too bad.  It'll probably eventually visit my yard anyway.

I hit 180 yesterday with a Black-billed Cuckoo!!!!!

I still haven't seen one of these and you have it as a yard. I'm jealous! I have had a Yellow-bellied Cuckoo visit twice though.

I have a total yard bird count of 102 species in a little over 2 1/2 years. I have only recorded 49 for 2021 but I have been very lax in creating ebird list for the yard this year. My favorite yard to date:

You will! Where there are females there are males. We do see more females in the yard than males. Not sure why that is.

That's odd. I almost never see females, but if I went out right now in ten minutes I could find a dozen males.

They are there but you may have to look closer they blend in pretty good. In my case seeing more females it is probably because they come to the feeders more readily than the males. Away from the backyard feeders I see more males too.

American White Pelicans! Finally stopped pouring rain here, so I went into the yard to do some skywatching. Didn't see much, got bored, and proceeded to clear up part of the yard... and happened to look up and behold the 9th county records then flew over. Thankfully I still had my camera with me.

I wonder where they came from.

Still raining here… if it was my choice, you’d be getting all our rain today! ?️

Well if you ever get tired of rain and cold you know where to come! In another to week, if it does not rain, I will be able to stick my fingers in the cracks that are starting in the ground.
