That would be completely awesome to have shorebird habitat even if temporary in your yard. Cheating with flyovers?!?! That’s all I got here! ? But dang, that’s amazing! More shorebirds than my average day of shorebird in my county haha. You better make it a wildlife sanctuary at this rate ? 1

Definitely not checklist streaks or photography.

True, but to be honest you’re better with that than I was just a while ago, you should see the first photos I submitted on this site for Id help. Cringe cringe cringe, lol. Quiscalus quiscula
I have 38 species for my yard currently. They include Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Mourning Dove, Ruby-throated Hummingbird, and Ring-billed Gull. And yes, I'm cheating with flyovers, but I only have two. Still a pretty sad yard list, but only have a half acre yard.

If you saw a B52 bomber fly over while you were standing in your yard, would you call it a 'yard plane' ?? ?

Peromyscus
My yard list just hit 90, with a surprise singing Red-winged Blackbird about 6 weeks ago. We aren't near a marsh, and I would have expected a redwing with the wandering wintering grackle/starling/cowbird flocks that used to winter across the street.

Well, I think most of it depends on the habitat and food availability in and around the yard. Native plants, good cover, water source, etc. Also, there will be more flyovers if there are mountains nearby that create thermals, for instance, or a river or body of water that the birds follow.

Yes, very true. We usually get the usual migrants, house wren, common grackle, and we are fairly near a river. We do have native plants and a small wood in back, so our yard is much shadier and probably supports more birds than at least the neighboring yards. Unfortunately, we had to take our feeders down because NOTHING deters our squirrels, but that doesn't seem to have affected the number of birds much. We also have an elderberry bush and several Dogwoods which are a good food source.
