Yardbirds

Recommended Posts

It took me a minute to understand what you were all talking about, where I live having a bird feeder or counting how many species visit is such a foreign concept😅 it’s usually just the same House Sparrows and Bulbuls, it’s not worth counting. The only times you would see anything of note is when you’re out near water or desert, the most interesting thing you might see from your house is a Ring-necked  Parakeet

Counted it up and right now I have a yard list of 79.

You do have to set it up. It isn't automatic like most things ebird will do for you like your life list...

I’m about 70% sure I had a Red-shouldered Hawk flyover yesterday.   I got a late look at it as it glided over quickly, in a tuck.  Not great looks but I thought I saw red on body, and wasn’t a long tail like a Cooper’s Hawk..  It was very smooth in flight, which everything I see/read says it should have been bouncing around some.  Not confident enough that I wasn’t a Red-tailed heavily marked though.

My yard bird total here in NE Florida after only 3 1/2 years is at 109. Shocking compared to my yard bird totals living in Colorado. I didn't use ebird for that and I don't recall the exact number but believe it was in the 40s some where. I was good about recording yard birds our first year here but have tapered off to only if there is a year bird or a new yard bird.

Just to add a little more to this thread.  I see that 62 of my lifers are from my yard.  11 of them are warblers.  I'd have never guessed that.  Best one being Summer Tanager.

Interesting thought. Only 15 for me, most from when I just started birding. The most recent and best being Wilson’s Warbler.

Got my first rare bird of the year (early) and a new yard bird!

Today was a good birding day overall, got to 20+ species for the first time this year at the ponds, got to add a pair of golden eagles to my county and province list, added 9 year species, and finally was able to add mountain bluebirds as a lifer to ebird.
Tried my luck to find the GGOW again with multiple SD cards, but nada. Though driving there gave me the bluebirds, eagles, and some others so it was worth the drive.

Yet another reason I am going to stay in the south.
