Birding isn't my hobby, it's my lifestyle. Besides that I run, kayak, play card games and eat interesting food!

I'm also a bit of a foodie! Love trying different foods. I enjoy a few card games also. I have never heard of the card games you mention later. For me it is Pitch, Tripoly, Solitaire.

Made this today. I'm pleased with the way it turned out. Now I have some at least what I consider beautiful fabric that I'm going to make a larger one out of. This one I'm giving to my daughter-in-law.

Made the other one as planned. It did not turn out as expected so I spent a great deal of time yesterday with my seam ripper taking the whole thing apart to start over. What wasn't expected you may ask...? I wanted the next one to be about twice the size of this one. So I doubled the measurements for the fabric...got it all sewed together...and some how it is 4 times the size of this one. What the...? I still might have been okay with it (though it didn't fit on the shelf I was going to put it on) except with the size the fusible fabric you don't see that gives it the body to stand gave out due to the size. So instead of standing up like this one it just fell in. Still baffled by the double vs. quadrupled thing. No my measurements were wrong. Even my husband is baffled who double checked me and cut the material. Busy doing other things this morning but maybe I can start over on it this afternoon.

Say your cube is 2 inches on every side. 2x2x2=8 that is the area in inches cubed. Now if you double the measurements, making it inches on every side, you end up with 4x4x4=64. 64 is definitely more than double the original! If you do want something double the size, you would need to first double to area of the first cube (so now 16) and find the cube root of that to get your side measurements. Which is about 2.5 inches. However, I’m guessing it’s not as simple as that as the cube is sewn together in a much more complicated way than just connecting 6 squares.

I see! It is more complicated than that but this helps! Here is the youtube video I used:

I ended up getting to my pouch this morning after all. We were suppose to go test ride electric bikes to see how my back holds up long distance. If I do okay we might buy a couple. But it was too chilly. Any way here is the finished pouched.

Cheap until you really start getting into optics ?

It can be tailored to you and your budget/time/resources/abilities. It is what I love about the hobby. You can spend as much or as little as you decide on optics and travel etc. You can spend as much time as your life style allows. Everything from backyard birders to world travelers, to people who bird only with the naked eye and ear to people you spend tens of thousands on binoculars and cameras. Even folks with disabilities enjoy this hobby. No matter what though there is joy to be had in this hobby.

I have to thank you again for this! Everything I had done to date sewing wise had been something flat. So cube mathematics had not played a part. Since it has been decades since I took any math classes and I didn't use geometry...much in my adult life I had completely forgotten this. You not only solved my problem but refreshed memory. My husband and I both felt like DUH as soon as we read your message.

I combine birding with Disc Golf (frisbee golf) on most weekends.  Good, cheap fun, just like birding! ?

I'm hoping to combine electric bicycling with birding. I have seen many Disc Golf course within birding hotspots so this is a great idea.
