kelili
I've been searching online for many days, and I still can't figure out what bird this is. It has been eating my song bird food on the ground along with doves and cardinals here in the Piedmont of North Carolina, arrived about 2-3 weeks ago when I started putting out seed. It is smaller than a cardinal but bigger than a sparrow. It makes a sweet short chirp similar to the cardinals when it's on the ground eating. It appears a dark purple all over, but some dark red on it's wings. The closest guess I have is maybe it is a Junco, but an unusual color? From what I read, Juncos have a wide color variation and are often confused with other birds. I'm new to North Carolina, so I've never seen this bird before. Any help?
