Dan P Posted May 17, 2021 Share Posted May 17, 2021 Taken 5-7-2021 in the afternoon at Lower Scholl Canyon Park in Glendale, CA. The first two photos are the same bird. The third photo was taken 26 minutes later about 20 yards away, so probably a different bird. I think these are both Wrentit's, but wonder if either are female Bushtit's. Also, Bushtits often call to each other while foraging (called "contact calls") while Wrentits generally don't. Bushtits also tend to flock in large numbers, although sometimes there are just one or two. Wrentits are almost always solitary or else a pair. There is almost no mistaking these two species for each other in the field because their size, behavior, and calls are so different from each other.
