Southern Ontario today.

What struck me was the absolute uniform grey colour all down its back. Very secretive, deep in the undergrowth of a creek - dark enough that I struggled to get a photo.

Maybe not enough for a positive ID., which is fine.

Thanks.

Quite the buffy eye ring. If I saw that in Missouri, I'd call it a Swainson's.

Definitely Swainson’s

I'm beginning to have serious doubts about my colour acuity. The complete back  and the area below the eye appears grey to me - is it just me?

Now I'm much more concerned about my eyesight than the ID.

It does look grayish, but Gray-cheeked would lack those buffy tones around the face and the eyering.
