Great crested flycatcher?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Can someone confirm if this is a great crested flycatcher?  I was hearing some froggish "Breep breep breep" calls and a few loud "Weee-eep!" calls from a nearby maple, but the foliage was too dense to see the bird.  Then this bird flew into the mulberry tree while the other one was still calling from the maple.  I didn't hear this one make any sound, but I snapped this picture of it anyway.  I'm assuming it's another great crested flycatcher, but I don't know for sure, as I've only ever heard them and never got a good look at one.

Great crested flycatcher. They are the most common myiarchus flycatcher in most areas

In the east, yes. Ash-throateds are much more common in the southwest.
