Been there.....I now leave the camera card door open when I remove the card so that I can't miss the open door when I pick up the camera. This simple trick has really work for me.

That's great until you accidentally break off the card door.  Been there, done that.

Gotta love it when two concerned Killdeer parents go over the top with distraction displays and totally give away the fact that they have a nest nearby. Only took me a moment to spot these cuties but my co-worker couldn't see them until I stuck my phone down close enough to take a picture.

The easy one first - Waxwings are always willing to put on a show.

The second one not so easy and the best I could achieve today - I almost started a thread about "most challenging bird photos". For some reason Northern Rough-winged are much more difficult to catch in flight than say Tree or Barn. I suspect the lack of contrast is a challenge for focus acquisition (pleased I have a 5 year warranty on my lens).

While I didn't manage to capture a photo of it, this Pileated Woodpecker was hopping on the ground. Never seen that before.

Interesting - happened to see this a couple of mornings ago - it was hidden by some low shrubs but making lots of noise, have a horrible photo probably. For a few seconds it was on the side of a tree trunk under full sunlight and unusually close which would have been a great photo - the red was spectacular, but I was too slow. Our local nesting pair are very vocal but extremely elusive.

Just checked, time flies and turns out it was April 27 - saved one shot and just developed it (I will spare you the pain).

Have never got a really good photo of a Pileated  (yours is much better than anything I have) but lots of people tell me they come to their feeders - oh well, will keep trying.

PS. Out of likes again but will add tomorrow.

This oddly colored female cardinal came up to the front yard. I have read that they can have unusual color variations.
