Cormorant taking some Mergansers under its wing(s). Cormorants are quite shy in this area so nice to find a cooperative one (I think it is just finishing a moult?)

The water there looks shallow.  Do skimmers ever accidentally put their bill into the sand and wipe out?

Ive never seen one wipe out.I dont think the bill goes very far into the water at all.
