Thanks @Colton V. I spotted a humming bird last spring flying backwards and forwards into a cattail marsh but it was too distant to see what it was doing - it just seemed strange at the time. You've confirmed my suspicions (great nesting material) but now I'm wondering how far away the nest would be (presumably near a food source), although they do move along quite speedily.
