From a couple days ago - Mourning Dove carrying nesting material: And a Cedar Waxwing:

Pied Billed Grebe struggling with a fish I didn't think was going to make it down it's throat.  Took about 10 minutes, but it proved me wrong!   https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/317620821#_ga=2.

Did you catch him mid-blink?

He had his eyes closed for a few seconds so not really a blink.

Though I will say that I seem to capture a lot of photos of birds blinking 😕

how do you get so many people to rate your photos? I have had very few people rate mine.

I often share in a few places, and if it gets on the best photos of the day on eBird, more people will see it.

Awesome! I had one hanging around my neighborhood for a while last year, haven’t seen him in a couple months though.

I swear hunters specifically look for these birds

Was that in Alameda? I've heard they're expanding their range north up there.

Yes, in Alameda. They’re regular in small numbers in the Livermore Valley southeast of Livermore. I saw 4 today which is definitely the most I’ve seen, so maybe they’re increasing.

However there are some records from the late 60’s / 70’s in that area (Mines Road) so they may have had a small population there historically.
