Piping Plover today.

I saw this bird about fifteen years ago when it first showed up locally and caused quite a stir at the time. Despite being one of the most popular beaches north of Toronto the local municipality continues to protect the nesting site annually.

I recently realized it is not on my list so went to find it again this morning.

I was told that bands on the left leg means the bird is a female and the right leg it's a male.  It this true?  It may have been a joke - the male is always right!

I went to get a drink of water and saw a lot of Crossbills (I've never seen them in my yard). I couldn't go outside because they would have flown away so this is through the kitchen window.
