I'm walking down a gravel road looking for warblers when all of a sudden this red-tail pops out of the bushes!  It stood there for a minute and I started to think it was hurt - nope!  It just flew off down the road!

Only Pied-billed for me--Alabama & Florida (panhandle & west coast) but others in these areas have regularly seen Earned & Horned.

For me the Pied-billed provides the most entertainment in a small package of any other bird. We have one or two nesting pairs each year and it is fascinating to watch the family interaction (although the Horned doing their courtship display is also special).
