Chris Clem
Yet another visit from a Great Horned Owl to my Mojave Desert waterhole this morning. This makes 3 days in a row all before dawn. This photo was taken at 5:26 am. They have been staying for about 20 minutes. I have heard their Ca-Coooing sound many times at night and always thought they were calling there mate, but I found they also make that sound when they are standing right next to each other. Got a profile shot of this one admiring my waterhole. Â Edited June 16, 2021 by Chris Clem

Clip
Have two favorites from today. The Barred Owls were a very pleasant surprise. Yes there are owls here but with all the vegetation for cover we rarely see them.
HamRHead
From yesterday. The eyes have it... Are yellow eyes more common than red? They seem to be for me. I have seen a few red-eyed Towhees but it seems to be the exception.

Cool, I've always wondered what other eye colors they had, but I never bothered to look it up. I've never seen anything other than a Red-eyed up here. I was going to suggest the possibility of them growing into the red eye with age but thought I'd better look it up first. My iBird app said juveniles have dark eyes so I checked with Cornell and found the white eyed variant. Definitely a cool bird.
