dragon49
My knowledge of some calls came in handy as I recognized the RSH call and walked right over to the bird: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/420149781

I got my lifer Cali Thrasher at that exact spot on Monday. My photos aren't nearly as good though.

Connor Cochrane
Finally was able to get one of the two owls I still didn't have for my county. Barred Owl was somewhat of a nemesis of mine as I've tried many times in the county to no avail. However, I was finally able to find one tonight, which makes this my 338th Marin County bird. https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/420306531

It sure looks like you used flash. How did you photograph it? Just wondering.

Connor Cochrane
Just now, IKLland said: Why? They outcompete the native Spotted Owls. Close to two Barreds (almost all the county's population) was killed last year but these must've gone unnoticed.

We only had one bird the whole time we were there and it never called. We’re thinking one might have been shot already but aren’t certain.
ChickadeeXT
I can't contain my excitement. I've seen these gorgeous birds before, but this is the first clear, good picture I've gotten of one. A stunning Pyrrhuloxia or Desert Cardinal. Happy tears. And yes, I totally said "Thank you!!! You're beautiful!" when it flew off.

Do you know what agency is carrying this out? CDFW or USFWS?
roadcykler
1 hour ago, IKLland said: Why? Because too many humans are ignorant and single-minded. They're willing to kill one bird to try and save a different one and even though that's been happening for a while, the Spotted Owl population continues to decline.
