Instead of flycatching, this Eastern Phoebe picked a pretty big insect (I think?) out of the mud flats, hence why its beak is still a little muddy

It might have been checking out something for nesting materiel- They build mud nests.

It definitely picked something out of the mud and ate it. Most likely some kind of insect, since there was definitely multiple legs, and what else lives in the mud like that. It was bigger than a normal fly you'd expect to see a Phoebe eat though. Pretty cool sight. :)

I found some Western Bluebirds at the local park yesterday!  I couldn't get very close, but tried to get some more environment-focused photos.  I'd love to get that mountain into the background of more photos.
