There are issues that I have with the eye detect AF on my R6 while using the RF 100-500mm too. While the eye detect AF is great, it's not perfect. Let me reword that, there are a lot of imperfect situations where the eye detect can fail and the AF misses the mark. As an example, if the eye detect locks on to a woodpecker clinging to the side of a tree and the woodpecker turns its head and AF loses sight of the eye, you could find your AF suddenly going up and down the front of the tree while the AF searches the closest object looking for an eye. Any shots you might have been taking at the time would be on the soft side. I speak from a bit of experience of taking some really sharp photos of one particular woodpecker friendly tree trunk. That's just one situation where eye detect can be frustrating. It's a great tool, but it's not a, 'One Tool Does All', kind of tool. I highly recommend using two back buttons for focusing on any camera that allows it, it makes working with/without the eye detect a lot easier for me.

It’s actually pretty accurate with the sigma in terms of locking into the eye, the problem is that it “pulses” in and out of focus. See this video:

What I’ve ended up doing it ordered the R7 and an adapter from Amazon. If I don’t like the AF pulsing, I’ll sell the sigma and get either the rf 100-400, or the 600 f/11 until I have enough for a 100-500, or until a mirrorless 150-600 comes out.

I'm basically planning on doing the same thing except I'll probably go with the 800 f/11. I'll probably still use the Sigma too since I have the same pulsing problem to some extent on the 90D so I'm used to shooting burst to get some sharp shots. Since you can update the firmware on the Sigma lenses I'm also hoping that they might eventually come-up with a firmware fix for the problems with the 150-600. From what I understand though Canon is giving the third party lens makers a lot of trouble about doing that or even making there own RF versions. Hopefully that's just temporary.
